An Insurrectionary Fascist Government can only be Stopped by a General Strike & a Labor Party
People will be coming together across the country on January 20th to resist the incoming president’s attacks on immigrants, on labor and on all the democratic rights that we have won over this past half century. Life will be made impossible for everyone, but especially for immigrants. Trump promises mass roundups which will certainly put millions at risk, but it will jeopardize the working class as a whole as project 2025 gets implemented, destroying unions and workers’ rights in general. Nothing will stop this fascistic government except a general strike of all workers. The “peaceful” transfer of all three branches of government to the far-right will mark the beginning of a frontal assault on the working class and democratic rights. The Trump-Musk regime has emerged at a time when capitalism’s profitability has reached historic lows and much of the economy has been outsourced to the Global South in the pursuit of higher profits, abandoning American workers to their fate. With increasing numbers of people awakening to this reality, the government has now shed its democratic facade, as the capitalists seek to shore up profits and US geopolitical interests through a frontal attack on the working class. To maintain control, the capitalists will depend on police state measures and far-right vigilantes to suppress dissent, and if that proves insufficient, they will deploy the military and National Guard.
The Trump regime is planning to quickly push through a raft of executive orders, in what they describe as a campaign of “shock and awe.” They also plan to immediately free the January 6 rioters from prison. This will embolden far-right vigilantes, by reassuring them that they will not face repercussions for attacking leftists, or even killing them (as in the case of Kyle Rittenhouse). , We can expect that fascist militias and vigilante groups will become an increasingly dangerous force as fascistic billionaires such as Peter Thiel and Elon Musk begin financing these groups in order to use them to target, crush and murder workers, political activists, and unionists. These disparate groups are now organizing their own united fronts, especially online, in order to meet the threat of an emboldened working class. THEY ARE NOT PLAYING AROUND. They seek to do as much destruction against the working class and the oppressed as they can.
Trump and his fascist supporters, including Turning Point USA, will remove 60,000 federal workers in all departments of the capitalist state and replace them with loyalists. Musk hopes to implement his transformation of the present capitalist state into a fascist capitalist state. That would include abolishing all the rights that workers and the oppressed have gained over the past 50 years. TheNLRB, although ineffectual for the most part, represents the fact that workers have rights. Musk will now double down on his attempts to abolish it. Departments such as the EPA will be iced. Project 2025 is a wish list for the ruling class, , which hopes to see a complete end to regulation on the wealthy, from polluting rivers and land to ending trade union rights for workers.
As in Nazi Germany, where the capitalists directly ran the economy, Trump has put capitalists such as Musk in place to administer this change to guarantee that there will be an end to trade unions, unless sanctioned by the state, i.e. company unions. They will call for the privatization of all public education from K-12 to universities, privatization of public services and public healthcare, and the complete privatization of Social Security and Medicare. The government will be able to draw from the Social Security and Medicare pot to reinvest in the stock market, and to force privatization of health care on the population. This can only be achieved through the immiseration of the working class.
This fascist government will launch mass immigration raids to deport millions of immigrant workers and arrest thousands of political activists, including the hundreds of thousands who have mobilized against the US- supported and funded genocide in Gaza, the pogroms in the West Bank and destruction in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.
We need to build a united front against fascism and deportation and fight in the unions to form defence committees for all immigrants, documented and undocumented, and their families. If nothing else, Trump’s rule will spell the ruination of the economy. It is the immigrants who by and large work in the fields and work in construction who keep the economy going. Without them, the cost of food will skyrocket, and the services that the rest of the working class enjoys such as Medicare and Social Security will be slashed since their taxes will no longer sustain the economy. Since immigrants are not able to collect these benefits, while they pay into the economy, this will be a net loss for the economy as a whole.
Internationally, besides threatening to invade Panama and Greenland, the Trump-Musk government will escalate the support of fascist regimes around the world, from Milei in Argentina to the AfD in Germany . This agenda is supported by the largest capitalist billionaires in the world, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Peter Thiel, Larry Ellison and David Sacks. The world is once again at the precipice of war, but this time, with nuclear weapons.
It is also likely that the capitalists will move to support a military coup and dictatorship in Korea. The fascist supporters of Yoon are calling on the incoming Trump government to give full backing of Yoon’s criminal declaration of martial law and for him to crush the working class and all opposition. Netanyahu is also counting on an even more militaristic approach from the Trump regime to completely wipe out the Palestinian people., Trump has promised that the people of Palestine will have “all hell to pay” once he assumes the presidency.
The fight against this fascist government will come from the working class and the trade unions. Workers and trade unions have real power — they can shut down the economy, but the trade union bureaucracy, instead of preparing for a fascist government, is telling workers to rely on the Democratic Party to defend our rights and living conditions. This is dangerous and ludicrous. The bureaucrats want nothing more than to put their heads in the sand, which will only serve to weaken us, Project 2025 states clearly that public workers’ unions will be eliminated and all protections, including the NLRB, will be eliminated as well.
We need to prepare for a general strike against any effort to impose martial law, which will lead to fascist rule. Unlike the fightback in Korea, the US union bureaucrats are paralyzed because of their connection with the Democratic Party and thus have demobilized us. Rather, what is needed is the mobilization of the millions of workers that are in unions to shut down the economy, preventing Trump and his capitalist cronies from imposing fascism.
We call on all organizations and those who want to build a mass working class united front to join and prepare for the coming battles. Trump 2 will not be Trump 1 and the denialism about the danger based on the idea of American exceptionalism is a dangerous and costly illusion.
